Our Story

From kitchen sink cheese-making to thriving farm shop venue - the making of a family-run business.

2009

With a dream of becoming an artisan cheese producer, founder Sam purchased ten goats and started making goats’ cheese by hand in his kitchen sink!

2010

The first kids in the herd are born and Fielding Farm goat’s cheese is sold at local farmer’s markets.

2012

The goat herd has expanded to 300 animals producing milk for the cheese.

2013

Cheesemaking becomes the primary focus of the business, and the herd becomes smaller so that efforts can be channelled towards production.

The business diversifies into skincare production, producing hand & body lotion and soap made from goat’s milk.

2014

Big wins at the World Cheese Awards and Free-From Skin Care Awards put Fielding Farm products on the map and help propel the business.

2017

The farm offering expands with the creation of three on-site holiday cottages.

2018

After a decade of cheesemaking, Sam has become an award-winning producer, supplying tons of Norfolk Mardler & Wensum White to supermarkets, airlines, pubs, farm shops and restaurants.

Grant funding helps to facilitate cheesemaking courses at Fielding Farm, to support large-scale production or at-home enthusiasts.

2019

From humble origins in a garden shed, complete with an honesty box, customers can purchase cheese, honey and eggs from the farm.

Sam undertakes studies through a Nuffield Farming Scholarship to further his knowledge of sustainable food business growth.

2020

The COVID-19 pandemic brings demand, production and holiday bookings to a goat-screeching halt.

Sam pivots the business to support the community, sourcing and supplying products supermarkets couldn’t, creating a safe space to shop in our original garden shed….

…and the Goat Shed is born!

2021

Spurred on by the support of a growing and loyal customer base, the Goat Shed moves into a purpose-built farm shop building in February, with the kitchen opened shortly after in May.

2022

Caroline buys Sam a cow for his 40th birthday. It becomes the first of an award-winning breeding herd that will eventually have its new home at the Goat Shed.
